Wash your hands before sitting for your meals.
If sitting on the floor do wash your feet too.
If it is not a buffet, start eating when all the items are served on the plate. Usually host or hostess indicates that every thing is served and everybody may start their meals.
If papads are served first, don’t start munching them immediately, like we do in restaurants
If it is a ‘self serving’ meal, never touch food items or even serving spoons with the hand with which you are eating (it is called "jootha” in Hindi)
Don’t throw curry leaves or chewed drumsticks on the table. If you don’t like to keep them in your plate, you may ask for another small bowl to discard them.
If it is not a buffet dinner (where everybody sits at different places), if you finish your food ahead of all the others, don’t get up and go. Wait for others to finish.
Don’t hesitate to appreciate the items you liked.
If food is served on banana leaf, after finishing the dinner, do fold it horizontally from outside to inner(your side) of the leaf.
Some hosts don’t allow guests to throw the banana leaf in the dustbin, because of some religious belief. In such case leave it on the table or floor. Otherwise, ask the host where the dust bin is and throw it in the dust bin.
Same is the case with a plate. Just ask the host/hostess where to keep the plate after meals and keep it accordingly.
Help the host/hostess in clearing the table etc, unless they firmly refuse.
